THURSDAY AFTERNOON

MISSION, PHILOSOPHY, VISION (THURSDAY AFTERNOON)

Psalm 105:4 “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”

I. MISSION:

  • The Great Commission Mt. 28…
  • Our mission: to make disciples who make disciples

II. VISION

A. AN INTRODUCTORY WORD ABOUT VISION:

B. A PICTURE OF THE FUTURE

(1) Focus #1: Publicly open the Sarasota Campus in 2025

(2) Focus #2: Find a site for Campus #4

(3) Focus #3: Continue Reducing our Long-Term Debt

(4) Focus #4: More Kingdom Workers

B. PHILOSOPHY

Thinking about Philosophy of Ministry

1) There is a difference between philosophy and theology.

2) Most disunity at staff-elder level is philosophical.

3) Be thankful your voice is heard and don’t be afraid to give input.

4) Be positive and realize it’s working!

5) Understand you won’t be in on every philosophy discussion.

MAJOR BULLET POINTS OF OUR PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY

  • We are Jesus focused and Bible-centered

  • We’re making disciples not just converts

  • We want to double our present impact

  • We believe in the concept of Simple Church. We want to do a few things well.

  • We do everything with all our might to the glory of God.

  • We care about families as the bedrock of society and our church.

  • We’re called to reach men (“Jake” conversation later)

  • We love getting better.

  • As a staff, we want to love each other and have fun along the way.

THURSDAY EVENING

VESPERS

GROUP 1

Study the first Scripture and prepare to tell us what you learned about signing, playing instruments and honoring God with music. What was the purpose of their music? What were the characteristics of the musicians? Did anything surprise you? How might this affect how we choose songs, worship elements or musicians?

Study the second Scripture and consider the purpose of corporate worship. Craft a prayer to read to our group that asks God to help us have worship services that obey this Scripture.

FRIDAY MORNING

PHILOSOPHY OF CORPORATE WORSHIP: SINGING, COMMUNION, PRAYER, GIVING

Foundational Principles

  • Upward-focused: We intentionally take the focus off ourselves and put it on the Lord.

  • Corporate participation: Whether or not people are signing along is more important than musicality or cool factor.

  • Wise Song choices:
    • Theologically rich
    • easy for men to sing (right key, right pace, etc.)
    • teaching Scripture or Scriptural truths
    • “Hymns” and new songs

  • Remember Jake: Get men involved in all aspects of worship, leading and participating

Creative Energy Exercises

Round One:

You are the only worship leader in a new church plant. The launch phase has gone great and you are expecting 400-500 at launch in two weeks. You expect the new congregation to settle in at 200-250. Your preacher is 40 years old, a solid Bible teacher, who is time conscious and is asking for your input on how long his weekly sermons should be. You have finished organizing the launch service and are now crafting the second service. What will be the order of service for your second week? (Include actual songs and the time of each element.)

Round Two:

Same scenario as above, but now you’re one month in. Things are going great and your church is already growing. You’re talking about two services. From the launch team you only had enough volunteers for one team. You know they will quickly burn out if you don’t assimilate new singers, band members and tech. What is your plan for recruiting more workers? (The more detailed the better!)
