This has been an exciting season for our church. We’ve baptized many people, our attendance is growing, and there are new people here every week. But some have expressed concerns, worried that we will grow too fast and people will drift away.
While we are doing all we can to disciple new believers, the concern is understandable. We’ve all seen people respond to the Gospel enthusiastically, only to disappear a few months later. The enemy would love to discourage us, making us think that perhaps it’s not worth the effort if people will just drift away anyway.
Jesus experienced the same thing. He knew that only some of this new crowd would stick around and that the disciples would face discouragement when people drifted away. So he told a parable: “The Parable of the Sower.”
